JUNGLE SUITE
Private Suite

A proper suite and the most private option, for guests who want more space and more quiet, with a bed that opens out toward the forest so you wake up with the jungle right in front of you.
Why Jungle Suite?
- Most private lodge experience
- Features spectacular jungle views
- Private balcony with large hammock
All stays have the same activities, same meals, same guides, same shared spaces. What changes is privacy, comfort, and price.
Every room comes with hot water, a mosquito net on each bed, and 24-hour electricity. The private rooms add their own bathroom and a balcony, and the Spider Room shares a clean hallway bathroom.
The Lodge Is Part of the Trip
It is not just where you sleep between activities. How you spend your time here is part of the whole experience too.
Tucán Lodge is a 100% locally owned Cuyabeno lodge inside the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve, with shared and private rooms for different kinds of travelers.
This is where you wake up to the sound of birds and monkeys, delicious meals that bring everyone back together, and the pier somehow becomes both a playground and a place to unwind.
You may come here for the reserve, the wildlife, and the river. But you will leave remembering how it felt to stay here and call it your jungle home for a few days.
Our chef is from the local community, and cooking here isn’t just her job, it’s her joy. Working with what’s available, adapting to dietary needs, and getting creative along the way, she somehow turns simple ingredients into meals people rave about.
She loves it when guests ask questions, want to learn how something’s made, or go back for seconds (or thirds).
And yes! We serve what might be the best beer in the Amazon.
Homemade, freshly brewed, and a guaranteed “Happy Gringo”.
The spaces we design are social, but without pressure.
We have hammocks that face the river where you can unwind peacefully between activities, and a quiet reading nook for when you want to be still.
There’s a yoga room to stretch and get grounded, a gym to flex some muscles and break some sweat, and an Amazonian spa you can arrange ahead of your stay.
You can also jump off the pier with friends, drift downstream on a tube, or paddle across the river with our standup paddle to look for more species if the activities aren’t enough.
How the days unfold
Here is how a day at the lodge usually goes, from the first coffee in the morning to the stars at night.
Morning
The coffee and hot chocolate are ready before you are, made beans to cup, so the first thing you taste in the morning is where you actually are. Hummingbirds move through the garden in the early light while the lodge slowly comes to life, and how you begin is up to you. Some guests head out early for a canoe ride to watch the Amazon wake up, some take the morning slowly, and some stay in bed a little longer. Breakfast waits for everyone before the day heads out.

Midday
In the middle of the day, between the morning and afternoon outings, the lodge is where everyone lands. If the sun is out, this is when the pier fills up, because someone always ends up jumping in, and there are paddleboards for crossing the river to look for whatever the guides have not shown you yet. If you would rather do nothing, the hammocks over the water are right there, and nobody minds either way, so you can spend the middle of the day as busy or as slow as you want.

Evening
As the light changes, everyone drifts back together, and dinner turns into the long, unhurried centre of the evening, where the plates go around, the stories get told again, and the beer we brew here keeps the table going well past the food. Some evenings stay lively and some settle quiet, and you are welcome to stay up with the table or slip off to bed whenever you have had enough. The lights in the common areas go off at 11pm, unless you fancy turning into a night owl yourself.

Night
Later the jungle takes over again, and as the air cools the lodge goes quiet. The lights go off, and because there is no light pollution this deep in the reserve, the stars come out in full, so on a clear night you can see the Milky Way stretched right across the sky.

Built to Tread Lightly
The lodge itself is built to tread lightly. The cabins use renewable materials and palm roofing that keeps growing after it’s harvested, our water is filtered and returned clean to the forest through a bio-digester, and the products we use are biodegradable. You get a comfortable stay in a remote place, without the place paying for it.
Why guests keep recommending Tucán Lodge
The difference in the room or suite you choose never changes the overall experience at Tucán Lodge.

Questions most people ask before booking a stay at Tucán Lodge
Choose the Spider Room if you are traveling solo or want the most social and budget-friendly option. Best for solo travelers or social butterflies.
Choose the Nest Room if you want privacy while staying closer to the main lodge and shared spaces. Best for couples, families, or friends.
Choose the Jungle Suite if you want the most space, the most independence, and a quieter, more secluded stay. Best for couples, honeymooners, or nature lovers.
Usually the Spider Room. It is our best value option and the most common choice for solo travelers. Because it is a shared room, it is also a great way to meet other guests enjoying the same Cuyabeno experience.
Yes. Couples usually choose the Nest Room or the Jungle Suite, both private options with their own balcony and private facilities. The Nest Room is a great choice if you want comfort and privacy while staying closer to the shared lodge spaces, while the Jungle Suite is best for couples wanting more independence, more space, and a more secluded jungle feel.
Absolutely. Tucán Lodge welcomes families of all kinds: with children, older adults, or several generations traveling together. We believe it is never about age, but about the vibe: curiosity, openness, and a love for life and nature. If your family enjoys meaningful experiences, shared adventure, and warm hospitality, you will likely feel very at home here.
Tucán Lodge is a place where families can slow down, laugh together, and create memories in the rainforest that stay with them long after the trip ends.
Yes, meals are included during your stay, and they are often one of the most appreciated parts of the experience. Guests regularly mention the freshness, variety, and generous portions. It is one more reason the lodge feels welcoming, not just practical.
Staying in a lodge in Cuyabeno is part of the experience itself. You spend the day exploring the rainforest and return to a peaceful jungle lodge to rest, enjoy fresh meals, watch the river, and listen to the sounds of the forest. It feels immersive, personal, and much more connected to nature than a standard hotel stay.
Tucán Lodge stands out for its knowledgeable local guides, warm family-like hospitality, and deep respect for the people, wildlife, and environment of Cuyabeno. Our guides are from the local community and genuinely love sharing their home, which makes the experience feel more personal, authentic, and connected. Guests often leave not only with great wildlife memories, but feeling more connected to nature, to themselves, and to the people they met here.
Reception is limited and we do not offer Wi-Fi to our guests. In a world where we are always connected, it is rare to be disconnected from the outside world, which is exactly why we do this on purpose. Most guests find that when they stay offline for a few days, not only was it never a problem, they also find real value in disconnecting.
Simply send us your travel dates, number of travelers, and preferred room type, and we will let you know what is available. We can also help recommend the best room option based on your trip style, comfort preferences, and budget.
We recommend letting us help you arrange tourist transportation from Quito. Here is a simple overview:
- Bus departs the night before your tour, between 9 and 11 pm
- Pickup at our two meeting points, Secret Garden Hostel and Embassy Quito Hotel
- Travel time is approximately 9 hours, with regular rest stops
- Breakfast stop in Lago Agrio at the Meeting Point restaurant, before reaching the Cuyabeno Bridge
One note: this shuttle is run by an external company, so we can’t promise their exact timing, but unlike the public bus we stay in direct contact with them, so if there’s ever a breakdown or a road closure we coordinate and sort out your plan with you.
Breakfast on the way to Cuyabeno and lunch on the return trip are included.
Transport costs are paid separately to us and confirmed clearly before your trip. For the full route and all transport options, see our Getting Here page.
